Dried or frozen? The first step in hash production
Basically, hash can be processed in dried or frozen form. Both options have their advantages. So let's start here.
Dry hash from carefully dried flowers
First, the CBD flowers are dried, usually for up to two weeks. This is followed by curing, which can take several weeks or even months. During this ripening process, chlorophyll breaks down and some terpenes evaporate while others mature. The cannabinoid profile, however, is not affected during this time.
This process creates complex aromas that give a more “rounded” taste.
Frozen hash: the flash-frozen alternative
Frozen hash uses frozen CBD flowers. They're flash-frozen immediately after harvest. This way, as many cannabinoids and terpenes as possible are preserved in the flowers, which would otherwise be partially lost during drying.
Depending on your personal taste, this can be seen as an advantage. The final product has less complex, but “fresher” aromas.
Dry hash and frozen hash compared: How do they differ?
The starting point is completely different: dry hash uses dried flowers, while frozen hash uses frozen ones. Since the flowers for frozen hash are frozen within a few hours after harvest, their terpene profile hardly changes – the taste is more “fresh” and slightly sweet. With dry hash, it's the exact opposite. It has many weeks to develop its aromas, resulting in a very rich flavor profile.

Production methods: How hash becomes ready to use
Simply drying or freezing hash is just the beginning. The flowers still need to be further processed and turned into a usable form. Common methods include dry sift and pollen, as well as bubble hash.
Dry sift and pollen: sifted hash
Dry sift is naturally made from dry hash. “Sift” means “sieve” – which already gives you a good idea of how this method works.
The dried CBD flowers are shaken or gently rubbed through increasingly fine sieves. This separates the resin bit by bit from the rest of the plant and it falls through. The finer the resin is filtered, the higher the quality of the hash. In the end, you're left with a very fine, sand-like powder.
Afterwards, it still needs to be shaped. This is usually done by applying pressure with a hash press. Depending on how firmly it's pressed, you get pollen or dry sift. Pollen is pressed with less pressure and crumbles more easily than the more tightly pressed dry sift.
Bubble hash from the ice bath
Bubble hash is made using a special cold process with ice water. Thanks to the cool temperatures, it's especially gentle, so the cannabinoids and terpenes are carefully extracted from the hemp plant. The result is an intense flavor that makes vaporizing a special treat.
The CBD flowers are placed in ice-cold water. By stirring gently, the small resin crystals break off, carrying most of the plant's components. Then, special sieves are used to filter out the separated resin crystals.
The resin obtained this way is then slowly dried to preserve all the aromas. Complete drying is essential, otherwise the final product could develop mold later. Once the resin is fully dried, it's pressed and shaped into a usable form.
This gentle method can be used for both dry and frozen hash. By the way, you can even recognize bubble hash by its color – it's relatively light.
