You can’t use just-harvested flowers here, since they contain too much moisture. The CBD flowers are first frozen. This happens within a few hours after harvest to keep as many active compounds and terpenes as possible.
The frozen flowers are then used to make Ice Water Hash, also called Bubble Hash. For this, they’re placed in ice water and gently stirred. This gently separates the fine resin crystals containing CBD from the plant.
These crystals are collected and filtered using sieves, then thoroughly dried. Once completely dry, they’re placed in special filter bags, and now it’s time for the main event.
Now the so-called “Rosin Press” comes into play – and that’s where the name comes from. The bagged, dried resin crystals are placed in a press, which can be operated manually or hydraulically. The plates are preheated to about 80°C and gradually pressed together, increasing the pressure step by step.
The combination of heat and pressure eventually causes the resin crystals to liquefy and flow out of the filter bags. This is called solventless extraction, meaning extraction without synthetic aids. The liquid that comes out is collected – this is the finished Live Rosin extract.
