Dab vs. vape is about two different product formats. A dab is a solid or viscous hemp concentrate in a jar. A vape is a device with a prefilled cartridge or a prefilled disposable pen. The two formats differ in material, consistency, CBD content, hardware and care.

What are dabs?

Dabs are hemp concentrates obtained from the plant by extraction. These concentrates contain a very high proportion of cannabinoids and are named after their consistency. Green Passion offers dabs in these forms:

  • Sugar Wax: grainy and sugar-like, CBD content of up to 90% according to the product information, terpene profile Lemon Lime Soda.
  • Live Resin: creamy and soft, made from fresh plant material, terpene profile Sour OG.
  • Diamonds: solid crystals, CBD content of up to 98% according to the product information, terpene profile Lemon Diesel.

Dabs are sold in small 1 g jars. At room temperature the material is solid or viscous and does not flow. Our articles What is Sugar Wax and What are CBD Diamonds explain how the individual concentrates are made. You can find all concentrates and the matching devices under CBD dab and wax.

What is a vape?

Vape is the umbrella term for devices with a battery and heating element that are filled with a liquid. In the CBD sector there are two designs. With a vape pen with cartridge, the battery and cartridge are separate. The cartridge is screwed onto the battery and can be replaced. With a disposable vape, the battery and filling are built in permanently.

According to the product information, the CBD Vape Cartridges from Green Passion contain 1 ml of full spectrum distillate. The stated values are below 55% CBD, below 33% CBC, below 12% CBG and up to 0.9% THC. The cartridges are free of nicotine, PG and VG. They are available in the strains Gelato, Cookies and Zkittles. The shop also carries disposable vapes from the Kush CBD Vapepen line, for example OG Kush, Blue Dream or Super Lemon Haze. According to the product information, these pens contain a hemp-based CBD formula with terpenes and other cannabinoids.

Dab vs. vape: material and CBD content compared

The biggest difference lies in the material. A dab is a concentrate without a carrier. A vape cartridge contains a distillate, meaning an extract that has been further purified by distillation. Both formats are extracts, but in a different form and with a different cannabinoid profile.

Dab Vape
Material Concentrate (Sugar Wax, Live Resin, Diamonds) Full spectrum distillate in the cartridge
Consistency solid, crystalline or creamy liquid
CBD content according to product information up to 90% (Sugar Wax), up to 98% (Diamonds) below 55% CBD, plus CBC and CBG
Packaging 1 g jar 1 ml cartridge or disposable device
Hardware Glass dab rig or e-rig Vape pen with 510 thread or none (disposable)
Care effort higher low

Hardware: dab rig, e-rig and vape pen

Each format has its own devices. A cartridge needs a battery, while a disposable vape already comes with its own battery. The following details come from the data sheets in the shop.

Glass dab rig

According to the product information, the Black Leaf Perkolatorbong Dab Rig is made of borosilicate glass and is 19.5 cm tall. It has two showerhead percolators and comes with a lift-off bowl and an oil banger. There is no battery or electronics, and according to the data sheet the heating system is manual. In the same category you will find the Glass Dab Pipe Clear 120mm made of clear glass, 120 mm long.

Electric e-rigs

According to the product information, the Puffco Peak is made of glass, ceramic and stainless steel. It has a ceramic heating element, four temperature settings and a 1700 mAh battery that charges via USB-C. The package includes Peak Glass 2.0, a 3D chamber, a joystick cap, a charging dock and a USB-C cable, among other items. The Yocan Orbit is made of glass, metal and ceramic. According to the data sheet, it works with a quartz chamber without a classic coil, has three temperature settings, a 1700 mAh battery and a USB-C port.

Vape pen and cartridge

A vape pen is a slim battery with a thread. The heating element, known as the coil, sits in the cartridge and is replaced with it. According to the product information, the CBD Vape Pen from Green Passion has a 290 mAh battery, automatic activation and a 510 thread. This makes it compatible with all cartridges with this standard thread. You can read more about battery pens and disposable models in the CBD vape pen comparison.

Storing concentrates and cartridges

Both formats react to light, heat and oxygen. The terpenes evaporate, and the material changes colour and consistency. It is best to store concentrates in the closed original jar, in a dark and cool place. If you keep a jar in the fridge, let it come to room temperature while still closed before opening it. This way no condensation forms.

Store cartridges upright. This keeps the distillate at the bottom and stops the coil from drying out. Avoid direct sunlight and hot places such as a car in summer, because the distillate becomes thinner when warm. Store disposable vapes in a cool, dry place as well.

Caring for the hardware

Glass devices such as dab rigs are fragile. Store them upright and protected, for example in the original packaging. A standard glass cleaner works well for glass. For e-rigs: the battery and electronics must not get wet. According to the product information, cotton swabs for cleaning are already included with the Puffco Peak.

A vape pen needs little care. What matters are clean contacts on the thread and a charged battery. Do not store battery-powered devices in blazing sun or heat. With disposable vapes, there is no care at all. Empty devices and batteries do not belong in household waste, but at a collection point for batteries and electrical devices.

If the vape pen does not switch on

It usually comes down to one of a few causes. First check whether the battery is charged. Then take a look at the thread: if the cartridge is screwed in too loosely or too tightly, there is no contact. Dirty contacts also cause problems. A dry cotton swab cleans the contact surface. If the pen works with a different cartridge, the fault lies with the cartridge.

Dab or vape: choosing by objective criteria

Which format suits you can be decided with a few factual questions. They concern hardware, effort and material.

A dab suits you if you are looking for a concentrate with a very high declared CBD content, different consistencies such as crystals or Sugar Wax matter to you and you already own a dab rig or e-rig or want to get one. Expect more care effort and a fixed place for the device.

A vape suits you if you are looking for a prefilled format without refilling, prefer a small battery device for your pocket and want to spend little time on care. With a pen and the 510 thread you can switch between the strains Gelato, Cookies and Zkittles. A disposable vape needs no additional hardware.

The range also includes ready-made sets with a device and accessories. According to the product information, the CBD Vape-Set combines a pen with a cartridge. Among the e-rigs, the Puffco Peak is available.

Legal framework in Switzerland

The same limit applies to dabs and vapes. In Switzerland, hemp plants or parts of them with an average total THC content of at least 1.0%, as well as preparations with at least 1.0% total THC, are considered narcotics (Narcotics Directory Ordinance, BetmVV-EDI, SR 812.121.11, Annex 5, Directory d, as of 13 March 2026). What counts is the declared THC content of the individual product. For the CBD Vape Cartridges from Green Passion, up to 0.9% THC is stated. Green Passion only sells hemp products to people aged 18 and over.
